San Francisco Maritime Museum

What do you do when you run out of space for miscellaneous sea going craft, anchors and history making items that won’t fit in the museum? You build a huge Pallet Rack system to store it all.

Two levels of pallet rack able to hold thousands of pounds of anchors, motors, and boats were assembled on some of the industry’s strongest electric carriages to create a large overflow warehouse so the collection can revolve and not show the same thing over and over. Tracks were submerged in the concrete to provide a system without any tripping hazards and wide enough for forklift trucks to drive down between the 15-foot aisles. Each carriage carried a double width of pallet rack with a capacity of up to 30,000 lbs. per section.
